Explore the medium of watercolor in a relaxing and creative environment. Award-winning watercolorist Iain Stewart’s 3-day workshop is solely focused on helping you bring your creativity to light. Iain states, “It is my absolute joy to watch students
make those tiny breakthroughs that begin to build confidence and leave a lasting desire to continue their exploration. Far too often the background exploration of a painting is left undone, leaving the “soul” of the image a mystery. It is my hope that by understanding and repeating my process, you will find that your watercolors develop according to a plan rather than as the result of unanticipated reactions and compromises. Watercolor, if treated correctly, can be much easier than its reputation might suggest. I can think of no other form of expression that I delight in more than painting, and it is my sincere wish to share that pleasure with others.”

Through demonstration, careful critique, and sharing of lessons learned over a long painting career, Iain will help students understand how to prepare for, anticipate, and respond to the challenges that painting in watercolor present. He will guide the artists through his process of simplifying a subject through sketching, creating graphite value studies, and expanding those value studies into preliminary color studies. In this manner, participants will learn how to create a road map that, if followed, will greatly improve the paintings and offer more consistent results. This roadmap will increase understanding of how to paint in watercolor, help the students avoid common mistakes, and works for any subject that the artists choose to paint.
